In what has been a terrific week for Indian domestic cricket, 17-year old Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed the second double hundred of the Vijay Hazare Trophy season when he made 203 opening the innings for Mumbai against Jharkhand.
Jaiswal had already made two hundreds in the tournament this season and this is his third century, nearly confirming his selection for the under-19 World Cup coming up next year.
As many as six tons were scored in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Wednesday but Jaiswal trumped them all with a scintillating double hundred in List A cricket. The Mumbaikar became the youngest ever to score a List A double hundred when he made the feat at Alur against Jharkhand.
Earlier this season, Sanju Samson from Kerala had hit a double century, the highest score in the history of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Jaiswal’s knock involved 17 fours and 12 sixes which is the most in an innings in this season.
This is a debut season for the 17-year old but he has already made a mighty impression with his explosiveness. His earlier hundreds in the tournament came against Kerala (113) and Goa (122). This is the ninth instance (and seventh Indian batsman) of an Indian making a List A double hundred after Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma (thrice), Shikhar Dhawan, KV Kaushal and Sanju Samson.
