Pakistan finally registered a win on their tour of West Indies. They chased down a target of 211 in the penultimate ODI of the series. Omaima Sohail struck her second half-century of the series to lead the chase, as others, too, chipped in with vital contributions.
Earlier, Javeria Khan won the toss and put in West Indies to bat. The hosts did not have the best of starts. Hayley Matthews, a centurion of the last match, got out cheaply. Deandra Dottin soon became Fatima Sana’s second victim. Kyshona Knight and Stafanie Taylor then added 142 for the third wicket. Knight struck eight fours and a six en route her 140-ball 88. She was trapped lbw by Diana Baig.
Taylor missed out on her fifty by a run, while Britney Cooper got a duck. In the end, West Indies were bowled out for 210 in 49.4 overs. Sana picked up 4-30.
Pakistan’s ploy to bring in Sidra Ameen for Ayesha Zafar worked. Ameen started slowly, but made 41 before getting dismissed by Shakera Selman. Skipper Khan’s lean patch continued, as she got out cheaply on 10.
Omaima Sohail again put on the hard stride and held the innings from one end. She added 81 with Ameen for the third wicket. Sohail completed her second successive half-century, and she was on 61 when Chinelle Henry bowled her out.
A partnership between Sohail and Ameen already chipped down the target. Now they just needed a finishing touch. That came from Nida Dar, who remained unbeaten on 25 to see her team past the target in 48.3 overs.
