Hayley Matthews (100*, 10-2-30-2) single-handedly helped West Indies Women beat Pakistan Women by eight wickets in the third ODI at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua. West Indies have taken an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series with the win.
West Indies were chasing a mere 183, and Matthews hit her second ODI hundred and remained till the end to guide West Indies reach the target with 9.5 overs to spare.
After being asked to bat, Pakistan lost Ayesha Zafar (10) to Shakera Selman (1-24) early. Muneeba Ali (25) and Javeria Khan (12) departed soon after that, to Chinelle Henry (3-37). Pakistan were left reeling at 56/3 after 16 overs.
Omaima Sohail and Nida Dar then steadied the ship, adding 87 for the fourth wicket. Sohail was particularly aggressive in this partnership, which was eventually broken by Matthews when she got Dar (24) in the 35th over. Sohail (62 runs in 79 balls) fell two overs after, to Anisa Mohammed (3-25), who led West Indies in Stafanie Taylor’s absence.
Pakistan stumbled from 143/3 to 161/9 after the partnership between Sohail and Dar. Coming at No. 10, Rameen Shamim made an unbeaten 19 in 21 balls to guide Pakistan to 182.
Matthews and Kyshona Knight (18) shared a 56-run opening-wicket stand before Anam Amin (1-35) trapped the latter leg before. Britney Cooper (45 off 69) and Matthews then added 102 runs for the second wicket to help West Indies sit in the driver’s seat. There was a little contest left after Cooper’s departure, in the 36th over. Chedean Nation (13* off 20) hit the winning four to ensure West Indies’ victory in the 41st over.
