The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) on Friday appointed former South Africa all-rounder Lance Klusener as the head coach of the Afghanistan cricket team.
Klusener will take over from Phil Simmons who served the position for 18 months. Simmons’ stint came to a disappointing end as Afghanistan finished as the last placed team in the 2019 World Cup.
“I am extremely excited and honored to be given the opportunity to work with some of the best talent in world cricket,” said Klusener on ICC’s website.
Klusener has a very impressive CV having previously worked as the batting coach of Zimbabwe and South Africa. He has also held positions as the head coach of the South African domestic side Dolphins and also as the bowling coach of the Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
“Lance Klusener is a renowned name in the cricketing world. It will be great to see our players benefit from his vast experience both as a player and a coach.” Lutfullah Stanikzai, ACB’s CEO, said.
Klusener also went on to express his joy on his recent appointment. He is looking forward to his time working with such talented set of cricketers and hopes that he would be able to help them reach the next level.
