Aaron Finch has been ruled out the first ODI of the three-match series against West Indies, due to a knee injury. Alex Carey will take over the captaincy duty in Finch's absence, as confirmed by Cricket Australia.

Finch already had minor issues with his right knee, and he ended up twisting while running between the wickets in the last T20I. Australia lost the ODI series by 4-1.

Finch, along with Mitchell Marsh, was the architect of Australia's sole victory, which came in the fourth match. Finch made 53 off 37 balls before Mitchell Starc defended 11 off his final over to restrict West Indies four runs short of the target.

Carey has a fair share of experience when it comes to leading the side. He captained Adelaide Strikers before Matthew Wade took over him. Carey will become the 26th man to lead his nation in ODI cricket.

The first ODI will be played on 21 July at Kensington Oval in Barbados.
