England chose to rest a number of their key players who played a huge hand in the ICC World Cup triumph earlier this year when they announced the ODI and the T20I squads that will play South Africa in February. Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer and Mark Wood have all been rested for the English side that will play their first ODI next year since they defeated New Zealand in the World Cup finals at Lord’s on July 14.
Led by Eoin Morgan, Test skipper Joe Root has been picked in the ODI team for the three-match series that commences from February 4 to February 9. However, he is not in the 16-member squad for the three T20Is.
Pat Brown, Tom Banton, Matthew Parkinson and Saqib Mahmood have all been given their maiden ODI call-ups as well for the tour of the Rainbow Nation. Brown and Mahmood have, however, been dropped for the three T20Is that begin from February 12 to 16.
