India registered a superb victory over Australia in the first T20I of the three-match series at Canberra. It was Ravindra Jadeja’s batting effort and concussion sub Yuzvendra Chahal’s fine bowling spell that helped India in restricting Australia to 11 runs short of their total. Here we shall take a look at some of the key numbers from the game.
- Ravindra Jadeja notched up the highest score of his T20I career with his knock off 44* off just 26 deliveries on Friday.
- Jadeja’s score of 44* is also the highest T20I score for India by any player batting at No.7 or lower. The previous best was 38 by MS Dhoni. It came against England in 2012.
- Yuzvendra Chahal became the first Concussion Substitute in international cricket to be adjudged as the Player of the Match. There are four other players — Shane Bond, James Anderson, Jeetan Patel, and Malinga Bandara — who were adjudged Player of the Match as Super Sub, though.
- India skipper Virat Kohli has dropped three and taken three catches in T20 cricket since the start of IPL 2020. That is a success percentage of 50%. Only Varun Chakravarthy (37%) and Rashid Khan (25%) have a worse success percentage during this period.
- Moises Henriques took three wickets in his quota of four overs in this match. That is equal to the total number of wickets he took in the last three Big Bash League seasons combined (3 in 11 overs).
- KL Rahul’s knock of 51 was his second fifty in the last three T20I innings against Australia. It was the 12th half-century of his T20I career as well and 11th as an opener.
- T Natarajan registered a superb spell of 3/30 on his T20I debut. The left-arm seamer had delivered a match-winning spell of 2/70 in the final ODI as well.
