Australia leapfrogged both India and New Zealand to climb to the top of the ICC Test team rankings after thrashing England 4-0 in the Ashes 2021/22. India, on the other hand, slipped from first to third place, after losing the Test series against South Africa 1-2.
After winning the first game in Centurion, India lost in Johannesburg and Cape Town. The wins also took South Africa to 99 points. They are currently fifth, two points below England.
Following the defeat against South Africa, Virat Kohli stepped down as the captain. The BCCI are yet to announce a replacement. Their next Test will be against Sri Lanka, a two-match series from 25 February.
New Zealand's 1-1 draw against Bangladesh helped them retain the second spot in the rankings. Bangladesh, meanwhile, are on ninth, after Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies, followed by Zimbabwe.
