Scott Boland received a call-up for Australia ahead of the third Ashes Test, slated to begin on 26 December in Melbourne.
'Boland has been training with the team in Adelaide and joins the squad while the medical team assesses the fast bowling group following the second Test victory,' stated Cricket Australia.
Boland made both T20I and ODI debuts against India in 2016, but is yet to play Test cricket. In the 2021/22 Sheffield Shield, he took 15 wickets in two games for Victoria. He also featured for Australia A in the unofficial Test against England Lions.
Australia missed both Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood in the Adelaide Test. Hazlewood was ruled out due to a side strain, while Cummins came in close contact with a Covid-19 positive case. However, Cummins will return as captain for the Boxing Day Test match.
Australia squad for third Test: Pat Cummins (c), Steve Smith (vc), Alex Carey (wk), Marcus Harris, Josh Hazlewood, Scott Boland, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja, Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Swepson, David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Michael Neser, Jhye Richardson
