The Test series between Australia and Pakistan will now be called as Benaud-Qadir Trophy, in honour of legendary leg-spinners Richie Benaud and Abdul Qadir.
Pat Cummins and Babar Azam posed with Benaud-Qadir Trophy in Rawalpindi Stadium, where the first Test of the three-match series will begin from 4 March.
Benaud was the captain of the Australian side on their first ever tour to Pakistan, in 1959/60. After retirement, he also had an illustrious career in broadcasting before passing away in 2015. Qadir played 67 Test matches for Pakistan, mostly in the 1980s, and claimed 236 wickets. He also served as the chief selector of the men's national team.
'I am delighted to give my approval for Richie's name to be on this trophy alongside that of Abdul Qadir,' Benaud's wife, Daphne, said. 'Richie had a very high regard for Abdul and the fact that both were leg-spinners has a nice ring to it.'
