Australia sealed the ongoing three-match ODI series against India as they registered another massive win by 51 runs at the SCG on Sunday.
The hosts rode on Steven Smith’s century and fifties from Aaron Finch, David Warner and Glenn Maxwell once again to post a daunting total of 389/4 on the board.
India in reply could muster only 338/9 in their fifty overs. Here we shall take a look at the important numbers from this match.
- Australia’s total of 389/4 was the third highest total ever conceded by India in ODIs. India conceded 438/4 against South Africa at Mumbai in 2015 and 411/8 against Sri Lanka at Rajkot in 2009.
- This was only the second instance when the top five batsmen — Finch, Warner, Smith, Labuschagne and Maxwell — scored fifties in ODIs in Australia. The other instance was against India as well in 2013. Finch, Philip Hughes, Shane Watson, George Bailey and Maxwell had scored fifties back then.
- Steve Smith now has 209 runs to his name in this series at a strike-rate of 162.01. Only Shahid Afridi had scored more runs at a faster rate in an ODI series against India. The Pakistani international scored 211 runs at a strike-rate of 172.95 in 2005.
- Moises Henriques claimed an international wicket after three years. His last wicket came in the Champions Trophy game against Bangladesh in 2017.
- Virat Kohli registered his eighth fifty in the second ODI of a series against Australia. His previous scores in the second match of an ODI series against the Aussies: 118, 100*, 59, 92, 104, 116, 78.
- Steven Smith scored his second consecutive century off the series. Incidentally, it also came off just 62 deliveries and equaled the record for his fastest ODI ton, which came in the previous match once again.
- Glenn Maxwell brought up his fifty in just 25 balls in this match. It was the third fastest fifty of his ODI career. He scored faster against India, during his knock of 60(18) at Bangalore, in 2018 and against Afghanistan on way to his innings of 88(21) at Perth in 2015.
