Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast bowler Avesh Khan has expressed remorse over his extravagant celebration, where he threw his helmet to the ground, following his team's thrilling triumph against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in a closely contested match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) held in Bengaluru.

Avesh, who batted at No.11, managed to sneak a single off the final delivery of the match, securing the victory for his side. However, his exuberant act of discarding his helmet resulted in him being reprimanded for violating the Code of Conduct.

Speaking to the Indian Express, Avesh Khan acknowledged his regret, stating, "Things tend to get blown out of proportion on social media, and the helmet incident was a bit too much. I realized later that I shouldn't have done that. It just happened in the heat of the moment. Now, I feel sad that I shouldn't have done all those things."

Despite his remorseful celebration, Avesh Khan admitted to being dissatisfied with his overall performance during the IPL 2023 season. Comparing it to his previous two IPL seasons, he noted that it did not meet his own standards. Nevertheless, he emphasized his ability to maintain an economy rate of less than 10, consistently bowling in crucial overs, such as the 4th or 5th over and the death overs.

Looking ahead, with the West Indies series approaching, the 26-year-old seamer from Madhya Pradesh, who has represented the national team in five ODIs and 15 T20Is, remains optimistic about being recalled by the selectors.

"I'm hoping to be there. As a player, selection is not in my hands. One goes through ups and downs. I want to make a comeback, and I'm just hoping to do that," Avesh Khan expressed.

Having last played for the Indian team during the home series against South Africa in 2022, Avesh Khan has three ODI wickets and 13 T20I scalps to his name.
