Latest News: Bangladesh have announced their squad for the second Test against India, set to take place from December 22-26 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. In a surprise move, the team has included uncapped left-arm spinner, Nasum Ahmed, who has played in four ODIs and 26 T20Is but has yet to debut in Test cricket. Ahmed was part of the Bangladesh squad that recently defeated India 2-1 in a three-match ODI series.
The selection comes as Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan is dealing with a shoulder injury and rib pain, which limited his participation in the first Test. Fast bowlers Ebadot Hossain and Shoriful Islam have also been ruled out due to injuries, while Anamul Haque has not been included in the squad. Opener Tamim Iqbal, who is recovering from a groin injury, and former Test skipper Mominul Haque, who did not play in the first Test, have both been retained.
In the first Test, which Bangladesh lost by 188 runs, Shakib managed to bowl only 12 overs in the first innings and did not bowl in the second. India took a 1-0 lead in the two-match series with the victory, scoring 404 runs in the first innings and declaring their second innings at 258/2 after dismissing Bangladesh for 150 in the first innings. Set a target of 513 runs, Bangladesh's openers had a 124-run partnership, with debutant Zakir Hasan registering his first Test century and Najmul Hossain Shanto scoring 67, while Shakib Al Hasan made 84. However, India's bowlers fought back on the fourth day to secure a comprehensive victory, with Kuldeep Yadav taking eight wickets, including 5/40 in the first innings.
Bangladesh squad for second Test: Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mominul Haque, Yasir Ali, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan (c), Litton Das, Nurul Hasan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed, Khaled Ahmed, Zakir Hasan, Rejaur Rahman Raja.
