Bangladesh continued their dominance at home as they crushed New Zealand by seven wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the series. The bowlers performed in unison, bowling the visitors out for just 60 runs. Then they chased down the total with seven wickets remaining.

Deciding to bat first after winning the toss, New Zealand got off a terrible start. They lost four batters for just nine runs. Rachin Ravindra had a debut to forget: he hit Mahedi Hasan straight back at him with the first ball he faced in international cricket. An over later, Shakib Al Hasan uprooted the stumps of Will Young.

Nasum Ahmed struck twice in the next over, removing Colin de Grandhomme and Tom Blundell, to reduce the visitors to 9/4. A 34-run partnership between Tom Latham and Henry Nicholls was the highest in the innings. They made 18 each before getting out to Mohammad Saifuddin. The next five batters added 14 runs as New Zealand were wrapped up on 60 in 16.5 overs.

Mustafizur finished with three wickets, while Shakib, Nasum and Saifuddin got two wickets apiece.

Bangladesh were overly cautious, taking all the time in the world to go past 60. They reached there in the 15th over. Mohammad Naim and Liton Das scored 1 each, Shakib Al Hasan made 25 off 33, and Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah did the rest.

Brief scores: New Zealand 60 in 16.5 overs (Tom Latham 18, Henry Nicholls 18; Mustafizur Rahman 3-13) lost to Bangladesh 62/3 in 15 overs (Shakib Al Hasan 25; Ajaz Patel 1-7) by seven wickets. Player of the Match: Shakib Al Hasan.
