Chasing 202, Pakistan finished Day 4 on 109/0. They need another 93 runs on the final day with 10 wickets in hand to win the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh, at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram.
Abid Ali (56*) and Abdullah Shafique (53*) batted through the final 33 overs of the day unscathed, notching their respective fifties before the close of play.
Bangladesh resumed the day on 39/4. Hasan Ali (2-52) struck in the opening over, cleaning up Mushfiqur Rahim (16). Yasir Ali (36) and Liton Das (59) stabilised the innings, but the partnership ended when the former was hit on the side of his helmet by Shaheen Shah Afridi in the 30th over.
After the blow and an on-field concussion test, Yasir batted for an over before deciding to leave. He was later sent for scans. Nurul Hasan, his concussion substitute, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz put up some resistance, but did not last long.
Sajid Khan got them before Shaheen (5-32) removed Liton and Abu Jayed (0) in the space of four balls to complete his fourth five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Sajid (3-33) then dismissed Taijul Islam to bowl out Bangladesh for 157. They lost their last five wickets for 42 runs.
Brief scores: Bangladesh 330 (Liton Das 114; Hasan Ali 5-51) and 157 (Liton Das 59; Shaheen Shah Afridi 5-32) lead Pakistan 286 (Abid Ali 133; Taijul Islam 7-116) and 109/0 (Abid Ali 56*) by 93 runs.
