At Chattogram, Pakistan eased past the target of 203 in the first session itself to go 1-0 up in the two-match Test series. Bangladesh managed to get rid of both openers, but the match had already slipped out of their hands by then.

Pakistan resumed on an overnight 109/0. Abdullah Shafique (73) and Abid Ali (91) stretched the partnership to 151 (after their first-innings stand of 146) before Shafique was pinned leg-before by Mehidy Hasan Miraz (1-59). Twenty runs later, Taijul Islam (who bowled almost unchanged through the innings for his 1-89), trapped Abid leg-before.

Azhar Ali (24*) then got much-needed runs under his belt. He hit two successive fours off Miraz to end the match for Pakistan. Babar (13*) was reprieved early in his innings when Taijul Islam could not grab a return catch.

Shaheen Shah Afridi's five-wicket haul in the second innings also proved to be instrumental. Shaheen and Hasan Ali both finished the game with seven wickets each.

The misfiring top order has been a cause of concern for Bangladesh. However, Mushfiqur Rahim, and particularly, Liton Das, impressed in the middle order. Das followed his brilliant century in the first innings with a gritty 59.

Brief scores: Bangladesh 330 (Liton Das 114; Hasan Ali 5-51) and 157 (Liton Das 59; Shaheen Shah Afridi 5-32) lost to Pakistan 286 (Abid Ali 133; Taijul Islam 7-116) and 203/2 (Abid Ali 91; Mehidy Hasan Miraz 1-59) by 8 wickets. Player of the Match: Abid Ali.
