An unbroken 91-run partnership between Azhar Ali and Babar Azam helped Pakistan reach 161/2 at stumps on Day 1 at Mirpur. No play was possible in the third session due to bad light.

Abid Ali and Abdullah Shafique got Pakistan off a steady start, adding 59 for the opening stand. Shafique looked in control, and also hit the first six of the match off Taijul Islam.

In the next over, Shakib Al Hasan's arm ball hit him on the front pad, but he survived, as the ball had not turned enough to hit off stump. Shafique's stay came to an end after he got bowled by Taijul Islam on 25.

Abid (39) was more proactive. He punished Khaled Ahmed twice when the latter strayed short and wide in his third over. Abid's dismissal reduced Pakistan to 70/2.

Azhar and Babar then took upon the rebuilding job. Azhar looked a bit tentative at the start, and survived a close call against Taijul due to lack of conclusive evidence for the third umpire. He also copped a blow on his helmet. Babar, meanwhile, raced to his 19th Test fifty, and is currently batting on 60.

Brief scores: Pakistan 161/2 (Babar Azam 60*; Taijul Islam 2-49) vs Bangladesh.
