The BCCI has written a letter to the ICC urging it to officially not recognise the Kashmir Premier League, reported ESPNCricinfo. The BCCI’s complaint, according to the website, is understood largely around the status of Kashmir as a disputed territory.
Kashmir has been the cause of several wars between India and Pakistan since 1947. The political and diplomatic bindings between the two countries have fluctuated with time. At this point, they do not enjoy the most cordial of relationships.
India last played a bilateral series against Pakistan in 2012/13. Their last Test match was in 2007/08. However, they do go up against each other in the multi-nation events, from ICC events to the Asia Cup.
The six-team franchise-model KPL is scheduled to get underway from 6 August. All matches will take place at the Muzaffarabad cricket stadium in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
All six squads were selected in a draft last month. Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Hafeez, Kamran Akmal and Shadab Khan are to captain the sides.
