The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Friday that star all-rounder Ben Stokes will miss England's T20I series against South Africa, Vitality IT20 series, and The Hundred in order to manage his workload and fitness.
The announcement of the England men's squads for the upcoming three ODIs and three T20Is against South Africa, which start next week, included a confirmation of the news.
After leading England to four straight Test triumphs over New Zealand and India at the beginning of the summer, Test captain Stokes missed the T20I series against India in order to rest. Stokes has been given a break with three more matches against South Africa commencing in the middle of August, which also means he will miss the second iteration of the Hundred for Northern Superchargers.
Additionally, he participated in just two games with the Northern Superchargers during the inaugural season of The Hundred.
The Vitality IT20 series and The Hundred tournament, which are scheduled to begin next month, will not feature England Men's Test captain Ben Stokes, according to a statement from the ECB.
Yorkshire spinner Adil Rashid, who was granted permission by the ECB to perform the Hajj trip to Mecca, has rejoined both sides after missing the series against India. In both squads, he takes Matt Parkinson's spot. Jonny Bairstow, who skipped the T20 series against India, is back in the T20I lineup, on the other hand.
Matthew Potts, a seamer for Durham, has been called up for the first time to the ODI team after making a promising debut in England's four Test matches earlier this summer with 18 wickets at 26.72.
On July 19, a three-match ODI series will kick off South Africa's visit to England. Then, until September 12, there will be three T20 Internationals, followed by an equal number of Tests.
