Perth Scorchers slumped to their first defeat of the season. Chasing 201 against Sydney Thunder at Manuka Oval, they could only manage 166/8.
The Thunder lost Matthew Gilkes and Alex Hales, both to Matthew Kelly, early after being put in to bat. Sam Billings (67 in 35 balls) and Jason Sangha then added 113 for the third wicket. Chris Green struck successive fours in the 20th over to take his team to 200.
In reply, the Scorchers got off to a terrible start, losing three wickets for just 17. Colin Munro scored an unbeaten 63, but the rest of the middle order failed to step up. Andrew Tye chipped in with 25-ball 44, which was not enough.
