Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has recovered from the stress fracture of his lower back and has started training out with IPL team Delhi Capitals’ fitness trainer Rajnikanth Sivagnanam at the Mumbai Cricket Association. Bumrah, who last played in the Tests against West Indies, missed the series’ against South Africa and Bangladesh and has not been included in the team that will face West Indies from this week as well.
“He has been training at MCA. It’s a personal arrangement,” an official source told PTI.
The 25-year old Gujarat pacer is expected to be fit for India’s next overseas assignment – against New Zealand. The Men in Blue will play five T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests on the tour that commences from January 24.
Sivagnanam, though contracted with Delhi Capitals, also works independently with cricketers. Bumrah plays for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.
“Sivagnanam is free to work with anyone when IPL is not on as he is primarily a consultant for the Delhi team. It is purely a personal arrangement between the two parties,” a Delhi Capitals source said. Sivagnanam had been one of the trainers who had applied for the role for Team India in August. He eventually lost to Nick Webb of New Zealand.
Bumrah is one of the most successful bowlers from India, who has made a reputation for bowling his pin-point yorkers at any stage in the game. He became the second fastest Indian to get to 100 wickets in ODIs recently. He has also picked up 62 wickets in 12 Test matches for the Indian team.
“Injuries are part & parcel of the sport. Thank you for all your recovery wishes. My head is held high & I am aiming for a comeback that’s stronger than the setback,” he had tweeted in September.
