Chandika Hathurusingha, former coach of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be now working as the batting coach of New South Wales Blues. He will be now working with the head coach Phil Jaques, bowling coach Andre Adams and spin coach Anthony Clark.
On Monday after joining the team, Hathurusingha said, “It is one of the best working environments I have experienced being part of NSW. The best part is there is always a lot of talent coming through NSW cricket.” “I learnt a lot about the culture last time working with established players”, he added.
For Hathurusingha this is going to be his second stint with NSW after a similar one from 2011 to 2014.
Last time he had worked with Michael Clarke, Brad Haddin and Shane Watson, along with emerging talents Steve Smith and David Warner. He had also mentored current coach Jaques during the last season of his playing career with the Blues.
“He’s been an international coach who has worked with some of the best players in the world. It’s fantastic for our group that we have someone of Chandi’s experience and he’s worked with NSW before so he understands our culture. He’s a great addition to our coaching staff”, Jaques said.
Hathurusingha’s last assignment with his home team Sri Lanka ended after their exit from last World Cup. His record with Bangladesh was better which saw Bangladesh exceling in ODI cricket from 2014 to 2017.
“Coaching at international level has given me a lot of confidence in my methods and I’m looking forward to bringing that experience to the Blues.” he said.
