All six teams from Group 2 were in action in County Championship 2021, on 14 July. Let us have a look at how it went for them.
Surrey v Somerset, The Oval
Somerset 429 (Hildreth 107; Clark 3-75) and 69 (Hildreth 14; Ashwin 6-27) drew with Surrey 240 (Stoneman 67; Leach 6-43) and 106/4 (Smith 46*; Van der Merwe 3-60).
Spinners took all 16 wickets on the final day in the County Championship fixture between Surrey and Somerset, at Oval.
Jack Leach claimed a 6-43 to bowl Surrey out for 240, but R Ashwin (6-27) and Daniel Moriarty (4-20) triggered a collapse to wrap Somerset up for 69 in their second innings.
Roelof van der Merwe (3-60) and Leach (1-23) then took the final four wickets of the day before Surrey closed on 106/4.
Middlesex v Leicestershire, Northwood
Middlesex 324 (Robson 154; Davis 5-66) and 196 (Eskinazi 66; Will Davis 3-21) beat Leicestershire 228 (Ackermann 82; Murtagh 3-49) and 171 (Inglis 52; Murtagh 4-36) by 121 runs.
Tim Murtagh picked up seven wickets in the match to help Middlesex beat Leicestershire by 121 runs at Northwood. With 4-36 in the fourth innings, Murtagh has now got 37 wickets in the summer.
Middlesex had resumed Day 4 on 176/7, and only managed 20 more before being bowled out for 196. Stevie Eskinazi remained not out on 66. Will Davis (3-21) and Callum Parkinson (4-35) were the picks of the Leicestershire bowlers.
Leicestershire required 293 runs to win. Australian duo Josh Inglis (52) and Marcus Harris (46) kept their hopes alive before they lost their last five wickets for 19 runs; James Harris (3-50) and Murtagh shared seven wickets to bowl them out for 171.
Gloucestershire v Hampshire, Cheltenham
Gloucestershire 229 (Phillips 47; de Grandhomme 4-31) and 310 (Lace 118; Crane 3-55) lost to Hampshire 486/7 decl. (Gubbins 137*; Higgins 3-92) and 56/3 (Holland 19; Worrall 3-21) by 7 wickets.
Hampshire beat Gloucestershire by seven wickets in Cheltenham despite Tom Lace's valiant hundred. Resuming on 107/3, Lace (118) added 62 with Ryan Higgins (26), and then 56 with Jack Taylor (27) before falling to Joe Weatherley (1-22). It all helped Gloucestershire finish 310.
Hampshire needed 53 runs to win. They chased it within 10 overs, but lost three wickets to Daniel Worrall (3-21).
