Wayne Madsen and Matthew Critchley held the innings together after Derbyshire lost three wickets for just one run. Critchley fell one shy of his half-century. Madsen scored 42 before getting nailed on the pad by Brydon Carse.
In reply, Durham lost two early wickets before Cameron Bancroft and the skipper Scott Borthwick ensured no further damage by the stumps on Day 3.
