Four out of six teams from Group 1 were supposed to be in action on Day 1 of the sixth round of the County Championship. Let us have a look at how it went for them.
Durham vs Worcestershire, Chester-le-Street
Durham 246 (Lees 99; Tongue 5-39) lead Worcestershire 6/0 (Libby 5*) by 240 runs
Josh Tongue finished with 5-39 to restrict Durham for 246. Joe Leach and Charlie Morris also had two wickets to their names. Alex Lees got out for 99 to Leach on the sup of tea, while Brydon Carse (38*) remained unbeaten till the end.
Durham were 136/6 at one point before a 47-run seventh-wicket partnership between Lees and Carse helped them put on a respective total.
Worcestershire openers Daryl Mitchell and Jake Libby then batted out three overs.
Essex vs Derbyshire, Chelmsford
No play possible because of rain
The opening day of the match between Essex and Derbyshire ended without a ball being bowled due to rain.
Derbyshire captain Wayne Madsen won the toss and asked Essex to bat, but it started pouring before the scheduled start time. The play was abandoned after four and a half hours.
Defending champions Essex are currently fifth in Group 1, with just one win out of five matches. Bottom-placed Derbyshire, on the other hand, are still winless after four matches.
