Four teams from Group 1 were in action in County Championship 2021, on Tuesday, 13 July.
Worcestershire v Warwickshire, New Road
Warwickshire 395 (Malan 141; Sodhi 6-89) trail Worcestershire 415/8 (Mitchell 113; Lamb 2-38) by 20 runs.
Daryll Mitchell (113) notched up a hundred, while Ed Barnes is still batting on 98, as Worcestershire finished Day 3 at New Road on 415/8. They now have a slender lead of 20 runs. With just one day remaining, the match is likely to end up in a draw.
Mitchell and Jack Haynes added 130 for the third wicket before the latter fell to Matthew Lamb for 65. Mitchell departed soon afterwards, trapped leg-before by Liam Norwell.
A few more wickets fell, but Barnes remained firm at the other end. He was ably assisted by skipper Joe Leach (34) and Adam Finch, who is batting on 29 after playing 123 balls.
For Warwickshire, Matthew Lamb, Robert Yates, Liam Norwell and Will Rhodes picked two wickets each.
Durham v Nottinghamshire, Chester-le-Street
Nottinghamshire 328 (Patterson-White 73*; Rushworth 4-75) and 125/5 (Hameed 58; Salisbury 2-19) lead Durham 165 (Borthwick 38; Evison 5-21) by 288 runs.
Joey Evison and Stuart Broad shared eight wickets before Haseeb Hameed’s fifty put Nottinghamshire on the front. Nottinghamshire added 16 to their overnight tally to finish on 328 in the first innings.
Broad then removed both Durham openers, Cameron Bancroft and Michael Jones, inside the first seven overs. Scott Borthwick and David Bedingham offered some resistance, but it was all one-way traffic after Bedingham’s dismissal. They were bowled out for 165, and thus conceded a massive 163-run deficit.
Nottinghamshire did not enforce the follow on. They batted on to finish the day on 125/5 and stretch their lead to 288. Hameed got 58 of these runs. An early-morning declaration is perhaps on the cards.
