All six teams of Group 2 were in action in the sixth round of the County Championship 2021-22. Let us have a look at how it went for them.
Surrey v Middlesex, The Oval
Surrey 185/8 (Burns 64; Andersson 3-30) vs Middlesex
Only 18 overs were possible on rain-infected day two of Surrey’s County Championship derby against Middlesex. Surrey resumed at 146/6 and moved to 185/8 before the rain arrived.
Earlier on Day 1, skipper Rory Burns (64) and Mark Stoneman (63) forged a 135-run opening stand. Since then, no batter scored in access of 25.
Middlesex’s Martin Andersson claimed three wickets for 30, while Blake Cullen and Tom Helm have had two to their names.
Hampshire v Leicestershire, The Rose Bowl
Hampshire 233 (Holland 82; Barnes 4-61, Wright 4-71) lead Leicestershire 28/5 (Patel 13*; Abbott 3-22) by 205 runs
Once again, rain ruined most of the day’s cricket during the match between Hampshire and Leicestershire.
Since the resumption of Day 2, wickets fell in rapid succession. A total of eight wickets fell inside 11 overs. In that period, 38 runs were being scored.
Hampshire managed to add 10 more runs to their overnight 223/7. Chris Wright and Ed Barnes picked up four wickets each. Following that, the in-form pace duo Kyle Abbott (3-22) and Mohammad Abbas (2-5) tore Leicestershire batters apart. They claimed five wickets between them.
Leicestershire were 17/5 at one stage and struggled to add 11 more runs before rain ruined the remaining play.
Gloucestershire v Somerset, Bristol
Somerset 45/1 (Byrom 22*) vs Gloucestershire
Not a single over was bowled on day two of the Gloucestershire-Somerset match because of rain. The play was called off at 15.00 local time.
