Four teams from Group 2 were in action on Day 3 in the County Championship 2021. Let us have a look at how it went for them.
Leicestershire v Gloucestershire, Grace Road
Leicestershire 451 (Harris 148; Hammond 2-37) lead Gloucestershire 158 (Hammond 67; Parkinson 5-45) and 5-1 ( Dent 5; Parkinson 1-4) by 288 runs
The Leicestershire tail chipped in with handy contributions after a hundred from Marcus Harris and a fifty from captain Colin Ackermann guided them to a mammoth total of 451 in the first innings.
Callum Parkinson then skittled out Gloucestershire for 158. Miles Hammond and Chris Dent started off well, adding 48 for the first wicket before the latter was bowled by Ackermann. Glenn Phillips’ dismissal off Parkinson opened the gates, as their next three batters could only add seven runs between them.
Parkinson completed his five-wicket haul, and Ackermann picked up three wickets to enforce a follow-on. Parkinson struck early in the second innings to reduce Gloucestershire to 5/1 by the stumps on Day 2.
Somerset v Hampshire, Taunton
Somerset 360 (Gregory 107; Barker 6-72) lead Hampshire 285/7 (McNamas 91*; Davey 3-69) by 75 runs.
Hampshire finished Day 2 at Taunton on 285/7. They trail Somerset by 75 runs. Lewis McNamas is unbeaten on 91, with Felix Organ on the other end on 21 off 26 deliveries.
Sam Northeast (67) and James Vince (29) did well to arrest a collapse after Hampshire lost three wickets for just 31. Northeast’s dismissal to Tom Abell reduced Hampshire to 148/6 before McNamas and Keith Barker (33) added 87 runs for the seventh wicket.
For Somerset, Josh Davey picked up three wickets, while Marchant de Lange and Tom Abell picked up two wickets apiece.
