All six teams of Group 2 were in action on Day 2 in the tenth round of the County Championship 2021. Let us have a look at how it went for them.
Gloucestershire v Hampshire, Cheltenham
Gloucestershire 229 (Phillips 47; De Grandhomme 4-31) trail Hampshire 270/5 (Weatherley 78; Higgins 3-50) by 41 runs.
Hampshire took the first-innings lead against Gloucestershire on Day 2 in their County Championship fixture at Cheltenham. Gloucestershire resumed Day 2 on 214/6, but could only add 15 more runs for the last four wickets. Colin de Grandhomme was the pick of the Hampshire bowlers, with 4-31.
Coming to bat, Joe Weatherley (78) and Ian Holland (74) put on 174 for the first wicket to give Hampshire a solid foundation. Hampshire closed on 270/5, with a lead of 41 runs.
Middlesex v Leicestershire, Northwood
Middlesex 324 (Robson 154; Davis 5-66) lead Leicestershire 174/5 (Ackermann 65*; Murtagh 3-34) by 150 runs.
Leicestershire’s Will Davis (5-66) took five wickets in six overs to trigger a collapse in Middlesex middle-order on Day 2 in Northwood. Middlesex resumed Day 2 on 280/3, and finished at 324/9 as Stevie Eskinazi retired hurt.
Riding on Colin Ackermann’s unbeaten 66, Leicestershire reached 174/5 before bad light stopped play for the day. Josh Inglis fell one short of his fifty, to Ethan Bamber (1-36). Tim Murtagh did the most damage for Middlesex, with 3-34.
Surrey v Somerset, The Oval
Somerset 429 (Hildreth 107; Clark 3-75) lead Surrey 24/0 (Burns 18*) by 405 runs.
Resuming on 280/6, Somerset amassed 429 against Surrey on Day 2 at the Oval. Ben Green (43), Roelof van der Merwe (41), Marchant de Lange (29) and Jack Leach (28*) then all chipped in with useful contributions to help Somerset reach a gigantic total.
Amar Virdi (3-86) and Jordan Clark (3-75) claimed three wickets each, while R Ashwin returned 1-96 after bowling 42 overs.
In reply, Surrey reached 24/0 before rain forced early stumps. They still trail by 405 runs.
