Four teams from Group 2 were in action on Day 4 of the County Championship fixture 2021.
Leicestershire vs Middlesex, Grace Road
Middlesex 295 (Simpson 95*; Parkinson 3-76) and 218 (Eskinazi 46; Wright 6-48) lost to Leicestershire 136 (Parkinson 41; Andersson 4-27) and 378/5 (Harris 185; Bamber 2-75) by 5 wickets.
Marcus Harris and Colin Ackerman shared a 243-run stand for the third wicket to guide Leicestershire to their first win of the 2021 County Championship. This, despite conceding a first-innings lead of 159 runs.
Samuel Evans (26) could not add to his overnight tally, but Harris and Ackerman stood firm until past tea. Harris made 185 before falling prey to a Thilan Walallawita, the 22-year-old spinner.
Leicestershire then lost two more wickets in quick succession: Lews Hill was nailed on the pads by Walallawita, while Harry Swindells got bowled by Ethan Bamber.
Ackerman (126), however, kept his ground and scored winnings runs as Leicestershire made a mockery of the 378-run target set up by Middlesex.
Surrey v Gloucestershire, The Oval
Surrey 473 (Amla 173; Higgins 4-69) defeat Gloucestershire 158 (Hammond 77; Moriarty 6-60) and 268 (Tattersall 86*; Virdi 4-96) by an innings and 47 runs.
Amar Virdi (4-96) spun a web around Gloucestershire to skittle them out for 268 in their second innings. Surrey won the contest by an innings and 47 runs.
Resuming the day on 124/5, with a heavy deficit of 191 runs, none of the Gloucestershire batters, barring Jonathan Tattersall (86 not out), could offer any resistance. They added another 144. Tattersall walked back unbeaten on 86.
