Here is the round-up of all the actions from Group 2 of the County Championship 2021-22.
Surrey v Middlesex, The Oval
Surrey 146/6 (Burns 64, Andersson 3-17) vs Middlesex
Surrey got off to an excellent start as Rory Burns and Mark Stoneman added 135 runs for the first wicket in the London Derby at The Oval. They lost 6 for 7 in 50 balls after that, and finished the day on 146/6. For Middlesex, Martin Andersson picked up three wickets while Ethan Bamber, Tom Helm and Blake Cullen picked one apiece.
Burns rode on luck to bring up his seventh fifty of the season. He survived two lbw shouts in the first over of the day, and another a few overs later that the umpire incorrectly deemed not out. He hit eleven fours in his 64, while Stoneman got 63 before falling to Cullen.
Surrey lost three batters – Ben Foakes, Ollie Pope and Jamie Smith – for ducks. Hashim Amla and Rikki Clarke are on the crease.
Hampshire v Leicestershire, The Rose Bowl
Hampshire 223/7 (Holland 82, Barnes 3-52) vs Leicestershire
While Ian Holland scored 82 for Hampshire, none of his teammates could convert their starts into anything substantial as Hampshire closed the rain-affected day on 223/7. Keith Barker and Kyle Abbott were at the crease at stumps.
Edward Barnes was the pick of the bowlers, claiming three wickets including that of Holland. All three of his victims were out lbw. Chris Wright and Alex Evans claimed two apiece.
Gloucestershire v Somerset, Bristol
Somerset 45/1 (Byrom 22*) vs Gloucestershire
Heavy rain marred proceedings on Day 1 of the fixture between Gloucestershire and Somerset. Only 20.2 overs of the play was possible as Somerset reached 45/1 by the stumps. Edward Byrom is unbeaten on 22, while the skipper Tom Abell is on 19.
Earlier, Tom Lammonby was run out by Ian Cockbain in the fourth over of the match.
