Let’s take a look at actions from Group 2 of County Championship.
Surrey v Somerset, The Oval
Somerset 429 (Hildreth 107; Clark 3-75) lead Surrey 239/8 (Stoneman 67; Leach 5-42) by 190 runs.
Jack Leach claimed a five-for to restrict Surrey to 239/8 by stumps on Day 3. Rory Burns and Mark Stoneman gave Surrey a sturdy start, adding 98 runs for the opening stand. Burns got out on 50, while Stoneman fell to Leach on 67.
Leach picked up the next four wickets as well, to reduce Surrey to 191/6. His victims also included R Ashwin, for a duck. The Surrey batters did offer resistance, but none of them could convert their starts into big innings.
Rikki Clarke has faced 70 balls and is still batting on 15. They still trail Somerset by 190 runs.
Middlesex v Leicestershire, Northwood
Middlesex 324 (Robson 154; Davis 5-66) and 176/7 (Eskinazi 53*; Will Davis 3-21) lead Leicestershire 228 (Ackermann 82; Murtagh 3-49) by 272 runs.
Resuming the day on 174/5, Leicestershire could not add much to their tally. They were bowled out for 228 in the first innings and conceded a deficit of 104 runs.
Colin Ackermann’s 82 was the highest score of the innings, while Josh Inglis missed his half-century by a run. For Middlesex, Ethan Bamber and Tim Murtagh picked up three wickets apiece.
Leicester got off a terrible start in the second innings, losing five wickets for just 55. The tail wagged, and Stephen Eskinazi contributed with an unbeaten 53, to take Middlesex to 176/7 by the stumps on Day 3.
Gloucestershire v Hampshire, Cheltenham
Gloucestershire 229 (Phillips 47; De Grandhomme 4-31) and 107/3 (Scott 29; Crane 2-32) trail Hampshire 486/7 decl. (Gubbins 137*; Higgins 3-92) by 150 runs.
Nick Gubbins’ unbeaten 137 and a 174-run opening stand between Joe Weatherley and Ian Holland drove Hampshire to a massive 486/7 before they declared. Gubbins was ably assisted by Lewis McManus (39) and Keith Barker (31).
Mason Crane then removed both Gloucestershire openers in quick succession. They finished the day on 107/3. They still trail by 150.
