All six teams of Group 3 were in action on Day 2 in the ninth round of the County Championship 2021. Let us have a look at how it went for them.
Northamptonshire vs Yorkshire, Northampton
Yorkshire 158 (Hill 71; Keogh 2-8) and 159/6 (Brook 76*; Kerrigan 4-31) lead Northamptonshire 170 (Vasconcelos 55; Bess 7-43) by 147 runs.
Dom Bess’ career-best 7-43 kept Yorkshire into the contest against Northamptonshire on Day 2 at Northampton. After bowling Yorkshire out for 158 in the first innings, Northants resumed Day 2 at 61/2. Apart from Ricardo Vasconcelos (55) and Tom Taylor (42 not out), no batter seemed comfortable at the crease against Bess as they were all out for 170.
Responding to that, Yorkshire were left reeling at 24/3. Harry Brook (76*) then added 40 with Gary Ballance (24) and 35 with Harry Duke (13) to take Yorkshire to a respectable score. Simon Kerrigan did the most damage for Northants, with 4-31.
Sussex v Glamorgan, Hove
Sussex 226 (Ibrahim 58; Van der Gugten 3-45) lead Glamorgan 205/9 (Lloyd 38; Beer 2-29) by 21 runs.
Sussex hit back after they were bowled for 226 on Day 2 against Glamorgan at Hove. Sussex had resumed on 161/7, and then slipped to 194/9. Mitchell Claydon (22*) and Danial Ibrahim (58) added 32 for the last wicket before Chris Cooke stumped Ibrahim off Andrew Salter (2-23).
David Lloyd (38) and Billy Root (37) got thirties, but did not find support as Glamorgan struggled to reach 205/9. They still trail by 21. Mitchell Claydon, Stuart Meaker, Jack Carson and Will Beer claimed two wickets each.
Lancashire v Kent, Old Trafford
Kent 74 (Stevens 19; Anderson 7-19) trail Lancashire 108/5 (Davies 47; Quinn 2-14) by 34 runs.
James Anderson picked up his 1,000th First-class wicket as Lancashire wrapped Kent up for 74 in 26.1 overs on Day 2 at Old Trafford, Manchester. Darren Stevens top-scored with 19 before falling to Danny Lamb (3-16). Anderson finished his figures with 10-5-19-7.
