All six teams of Group 3 were in action on Day 1 in the tenth round of the County Championship 2021. Let us have a look at how it went for them.
Kent v Sussex, Canterbury
Sussex 181 (Coles 36; Singh 4-51) lead Kent 69/5 (Finch 24*; Atkins 3-21) by 112 runs
A total of 15 wickets fell on Day 1 in the contest between Kent and Sussex at Canterbury. Kent were forced to pick an entirely new side after a positive Covid-19 case forced the first XI into isolation.
Jas Singh (4-51) and Harry Podmore (3-49) bowled out Sussex for 181. James Coles top-scored in this innings, with 36.
In reply, Jamie Atkins (3-21) and Ollie Robinson (2-21) were just as impressive to reduce Kent to 69/5 at stumps. Harry Finch is still in the middle, on 24.
Yorkshire v Lancashire, Headingley
Lancashire 273/2 (Jennings 132; Thompson 2-52) vs Yorkshire
Keaton Jennings’ 132 helped Lancashire dominate Yorkshire on Day 1 at Headingley. Jennings and Alex Davies (84) shared a 163-run opening stand after Steven Patterson asked them to bat.
Jennings added another 93 with Luke Wells (35*) before finally falling to Jordan Thompson (2-52). He hit 15 fours and one six in his innings. Wells then batted through the day, with Josh Bohannon (7*).
Glamorgan v Northamptonshire, Cardiff
Northamptonshire 128/4 (Thurston 36*; van der Gugten 3-35) vs Glamorgan
Only 44.5 overs were being bowled in the Glamorgan versus Northamptonshire contest at the Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. Northants reached 128/4, with Charlie Thurston batting on 36.
Timm van der Gugten (3-35) and Michael Neser (1-30) did all the damage for Glamorgan after Northants opted to bat. Ricardo Vasconcelos (25) and Emilio Gay (22) both got starts but failed to convert them to a big score.
Rob Keogh (12) and Luke Procter (3) then departed cheaply before Thurston and Saif Zaib (18*) recovered the Northants innings.
