All six teams of Group 3 were supposed to be in action on Day 1 in the ninth round of the County Championship 2021. Let us have a look at how it went for them.
Northamptonshire vs Yorkshire, Northampton
Yorkshire 158 (Hill 71; Keogh 2-8) lead Northamptonshire 61/2 (Vasconcelos 32*; Bess 1-5) by 97 runs.
Northamptonshire were in control after Day 1 against Yorkshire. Despite George Hill’s career-best 71, Yorkshire were bowled out for 158 after opting to bat. Apart from Hill, Gary Balance (22) and Jordan Thompson (22) were the only two batters who scored in excess of 10. Ricardo Vasconcelos used six bowlers and all of them got wickets.
When Northants batted, Dom Bess trapped Emilio Gay (21) leg before to give Yorkshire a breakthrough. Simon Kerrigan (1), too, returned cheaply before Northants closed on 61/2. They trail by 97 runs.
Sussex v Glamorgan, Hove
Sussex 161/7 (Head 47; Van der Gugten 3-26) vs Glamorgan
Danial Ibrahim, 16, was at the crease at stumps as Sussex closed Day 1 at 161/7 against Glamorgan at Hove. Earlier, Timm van der Gugten (3-26) ran through the top order to reduce Sussex to 34/4. Travis Head (47) and Ben Brown (22) took Sussex to 96/6 before van der Gugten trapped Head leg-before.
Ibrahim and Will Beer (19) shared a 65-run stand for the seventh wicket before the latter fell to Michael Hogan (2-38) on the final ball of the day. Ibrahim is batting on 41. Only 55 overs were being bowled due to bad weather and continuous rain.
