All six teams from Group 3 were in action on the final day of the fifth round of the County Championship. Let us have a look at how it went for them.
Northamptonshire v Sussex, Northampton
Sussex 106 (Robinson 49*; Berg 5-18, Sanderson 5-28) and 215 (Van Zyl 72; Sanderson 5-71, Berg 4-72) lost to Northamptonshire 441/9 d (Zaib 135; Robinson 5-58) by an innings and 120 runs.
Ben Sanderson (10-99) and Gareth Berg (9-90) picked up 19 wickets between them to help Northamptonshire beat Sussex by an innings and 120 runs at County Ground in Northampton.
Sussex resumed at 154/4 after yesterday’s washout. They were bowled out for 215 before lunch. After Stiaan van Zyl’s (72) departure, they lost their last five wickets within an hour.
Apart from Sanderson and Berg, Tom Taylor was the only Northamptonshire bowler to claim a wicket in the match.
Sussex have now lost three of their five matches this season. They are at fifth place in Group 3. Northants, on the other hand, are third, with two wins, two defeats and one draw.
Lancashire v Glamorgan, Old Trafford
Glamorgan 344 (Lloyd 78; Anderson 3-40) drew with Lancashire 301/9 decl. (Jennings 64; Salter 2-49).
The match between Lancashire and Glamorgan was interrupted by rain yet again on the final day. However, riding on the fifties from Keaton Jennings (64) and Josh Bohannon (53), Dane Vilas & co. claimed an extra batting point with just one wicket in hand.
For Glamorgan, Michael Neser, Daniel Douthwaite and Andrew Salter claimed two wickets each. They are now at fourth spot in Group 3, between Northamptonshire and Sussex. Lancashire, however, stayed at the top, with three wins.
Yorkshire v Kent, Headingley
Kent 305 (Crawley 90; Coad 3-53) drew with Yorkshire 321 (Ballance 96; Gilchrist 4-74)
Yorkshire resumed the day at 240/5. Gary Ballance fell four runs short of a well-deserved century after a terrible mix-up with Dom Bess. However, Ben Coad (33) guided his team till the end to overtake Kent’s 305 in another rain-infected contest. Nathan Gilchrist (4-74) was the pick of the Kent bowlers.
Kent, who are yet to win this season after five matches, remained at the bottom. Yorkshire, on the other hand, are at second place, behind Lancashire.
