Northamptonshire’s pace attack ran through Sussex to bowl them out for 106, despite a crucial innings from Ollie Robinson. Only 39 overs could be played in the rain-affected affair between Lancashire and Glamorgan. And Zak Crawley’s 90 guided Kent to 224/7 against Yorkshire.
Let us have a look quick roundup of all three games of Group 3 of County Championship 2021.
Lancashire v Glamorgan, Old Trafford
Glamorgan 117 for 3 (Lloyd 78; Anderson 1-22) vs Lancashire
Intermittent rain played spoilsport as Glamorgan could only amass 117/3 in 39 overs of play against Lancashire. It was also the first time since July 2019 that James Anderson featured for Lancashire. He made his presence felt soon after the lunch, dismissing Marnus Labuschagne.
Glamorgan opener David Lloyd scored 78 before holing out to Dane Vilas off Luke Wood. Saqib Mahmood, Anderson and Wood picked a wicket apiece for Lancashire.
Northamptonshire v Sussex, Northampton
Sussex 106 (Robinson 49*; Berg 5-18, Sanderson 5-28) trail Northamptonshire 214/5 (Zaib 66*; Robinson 4-31) lead by 108 runs
Northamptonshire’s Ben Sanderson and Gareth Berg put on a scintillating display of fast bowling to skittle out Sussex for 106. Both seamers took five wickets each.
None of the Sussex top seven could reach the double-digit mark. Ollie Robinson (49) was the highest scorer of the game, and it was his 56-run partnership with Stuart Meaker (23) that helped Sussex stretch from 25/7 to the three-figure mark.
In reply, Northamptonshire got off a terrible start, losing both openers inside the first two overs. Rob Keogh and Saif Zaib then scored half-centuries. By stumps, Northants had a lead of 108 runs. Fo Sussex, Robinson shone with the ball as well, picking up four wickets.
Yorkshire v Kent, Headingley
Kent 224/7 (Crawley 90; Coad 3-45) vs Yorkshire
Zak Crawley rose to the occasion and scored a gritty 90 against Yorkshire to help Kent finish the day at 224/7. Crawley held the fort from one end, and combined well with Jack Leaning to see off the tough phase.
For Yorkshire, Ben Coad (3-45) was the pick of the bowlers. Coad struck in the first over, sending Daniel Bell-Drummond to the pavilion before picking up two wickets in quick succession in the late hours.
