Wells’s dismissal triggered a collapse, as Lancashire lost the next six wickets inside 100 runs. Danny Lamb and Tom Bailey offered resistance, adding 108 for the ninth wicket. But Paterson got the better of Bailey (52) to reduce Lancashire to 318/9.

Lamb remained unbeaten on 68, but ran out of the partner. Paterson claimed four wickets, and Fletcher took three.
