Barbados Royals will face Trinbago Knight Riders in the Match 23 of CPL 2021 at Warner Park in St Kitts, on Thursday, 9 September. The Knight Riders have a golden opportunity to win this contest and climb to the top of the points table. For Royals, this is going to be a must-win game to keep the semi-finals hope alive.
The two sides met last month, where the Knight Riders beat the Royals by six wickets. Isura Udana was the star of the match, claiming his first ever CPL five-for, but things have changed since then.
Udana warmed the bench in the last game, against Jamaica Tallawahs. Ali Khan, his replacement, took 4-6 from three overs, and will retain his place. Ravi Rampaul, who currently leads the wickets chart, will be the second fast bowler.
Against the Tallawahs, the Knight Riders sent Leonardo Julien to open the innings with Lendl Simmons. Julien is likely to get another opportunity, while Sunil Narine may bat lower down the order. Kieron Pollard, Colin Munro and Tim Seifert form the crux of an explosive middle-order.
The Royals’ decision to replace Shai Hope with Kyle Mayers worked in their favour. Mayers made 36 in 20 balls to provide the Royals with a brisk start. Too many things went in their favour in a 45-run victory over Guyana Amazon Warriors.
Glenn Phillips top-scored with 44. Jason Holder, who is otherwise having a quiet season, slammed a 7-ball 22 to propel the Royals to 185. The bowlers then performed in unison and bowled out the Warriors for 140. Nyeem Young picked up three wickets.
