Isuru Udana returned a career-best 5-21 to help Trinbago Knight Riders beat Barbados Royals by six wickets in Match 4 of the Caribbean Premier League 2021, at Warner Park, St Kitts.
Trinbago bundled out Barbados for 122 in 19.2 overs. Kieron Pollard then smashed three fours and six sixes in his unbeaten 30-ball 58 to reach the target with 19 balls to spare.
Opting to bat, Johnson Charles and Glenn Philips put on a run-a-ball 29 before Udana struck thrice in two overs. He had Charles (13) in the fifth over, and Jason Holder (3) and Phillips (24) in the seventh. Barbados were down to 42/3 in 7 overs.
Shai Hope and Azam Khan held the fort, adding 32 for the fourth wicket. The stand came to an end when Darren Bravo took an excellent diving catch off Akeal Hosein (1-18) at long on to remove Hope (20) in the 12th over. Udana got Azam (30) soon afterwards, and Barbados were 103/5 in 14.1 overs.
Barbados bat deep, but their lower order batters – Kyle Mayers (3), Thisara Perera (6), Ashley Nurse (8) – could not make an impact. Wickets fell at regular intervals after Azam’s departure. None of their last six batters reached double digits, and they were bowled out with four balls remaining.
Coming to chase, Trinbago were in early trouble, courtesy Mohammad Amir’s (3-21) three wickets in three overs inside the Powerplay. They were left reeling on 18/3 in 4.2 overs, and 38/4 in 7.5 overs after Tim Seifert’s (15) struggling 25-ball stay finally ended.
Pollard and Ramdin took charge from there. Ramdin (29* in 31 balls) played second fiddle in this unbroken 87-run stand as they finished things off in 16.5 overs.
