Trinbago Knight Riders jumped to the second spot in the CPL 2021 points table with a comfortable 27-run win over Saint Lucia Kings, in Match 9 of the season at Warner Park in St Kitts.

Riding on Kieron Pollard’s 29-ball 41 and Tim Seifert’s 25-ball 37, Trinbago posted 158/7 after being put in. Sunil Narine (4-1-16-1) and Akeal Hosein (4-0-12-1) then spun a web around Saint Lucia batters to restrict them to 131/7.

Earlier, Lendl Simmons (11 in 13 balls) and Narine (24 in 32) got Trinbago off to a sluggish start. Tion Webster (14) did not make anything substantial either, as they were down to 66/3 in 10.4 overs.

Pollard and Seifert took charge from there, adding 78 for the fourth wicket before Kesrick Williams (4-24) had them in the final over. Williams then took his third wicket of the over and fourth of the day by trapping Denesh Ramdin (8) leg before with the final ball. Trinbago scored 77 from the final six overs.

Coming to defend, Isuru Udana (2-32) cleaned up Rahkeem Cornwall (8) in the third over to send Saint Lucia on the back foot early. Wickets fell at regular intervals after that, as Andre Fletcher did not get any support from any teammates.

Ravi Rampaul (3-34) continued his form by picking three wickets, which includes the dismissals of Mark Deyal (14) and Tim David in successive balls.

Barring Fletcher, no batter scored in excess of 15. He finished on 81 not out in 55 balls, with six fours and four sixes, as Saint Lucia managed 131/7.

Brief scores: Trinbago Knight Riders 158/7 in 20 overs (Pollard 41; Williams 4-24) beat Saint Lucia Kings 131/7 in 20 overs (Fletcher 81*; Rampaul 3-34) by 27 runs. Player of the Match: Kieron Pollard.
