According to MCC World Cricket Committee Chairman Mike Gatting, the ICC is working towards getting Cricket included in the 2028 Olympics which is scheduled to be hosted in Los Angeles.

The BCCI’s recent inclusion under the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), an affiliate of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), was supposedly the final hurdle the sport needed to cross to be a part of the grand event.

Gatting said that Manu Sawhney, ICC’s new chief executive, has confirmed that process has already been started to ensure the inclusion of the game in the Olympics.

“We were talking with Manu Sawhney the ICC chief executive, and he was very hopeful we can get cricket into the 2028 Olympics,” Gatting was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“That’s what they’re working towards at the moment and that would be a huge bonus for cricket worldwide, it would be fantastic.”

Legendary former Indian cricketer had also voiced his opinion in favour of including cricket in the grand event earlier this year.

Talking about scheduling, Gatting said that it’s a good thing that the event last for only two weeks. Hence, room can be made for it in the cricket calendar once in every four years.
