Let’s take a look at some of the important cricketing developments from Friday, June 04.

Pakistan announces team for West Indies and England tour

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced squads for the tour to England and West Indies, to be staged in the upcoming months. They will be playing three T20Is and as many ODIs against England and five T20Is and two Tests against West Indies.

Mohammad Abbas and Naseem Shah have been recalled to the Test squad. Like every summer, Abbas is in a rich vein of form, bagging 27 wickets for Hampshire already in the County Championship.

Imad Wasim has also earned a comeback to the T20I set-up, while 22-year-old Azam Khan has also earned his maiden call-up for the T20I series.

Rashid Khan opens up on declining Afghanistan T20 captaincy

Rashid Khan has spilled beans on why he has refused to step in as a captain of Afghanistan’s T20I side. Afghanistan has recently replaced Asghar Afghan with Hashmatullah Shahidi as their new skipper for the Test and ODI team.

Rashid thinks that the baggage of captaincy might affect his on-field performance. He said he is much better in the roles of vice-captain or assisting the captain when needed.

Rashid will be next seen in the action for Lahore Qalandars in the UAE-leg of the Pakistan Super League.

Rain wipes off Day 3 of the England-New Zealand Test

Not a single over could be bowled on Day 3 of the first Test between England and New Zealand due to persistent drizzle at Lord’s. England is on 111/2 and trails the visitors by another 267 runs.

Rory Burns is unbeaten on 59, his first fifty in nine innings for the Three Lions. Burns has got the reassuring presence of Root on the other end, who is batting on 42.

The weather forecast for Day 4 paints an optimistic picture. Half an hour is added to the last two days to make up for the lost time.

Hanuma Vihari explains on challenges of facing Dukes ball

Malan replaces out-of-form Vihari in Warwickshire XI
Malan replaces out-of-form Vihari in Warwickshire XI
Hanuma Vihari has been in England since April, plying his trade for Warwickshire in the County Championship. Vihari had a tough time in the beginning, but made 32 and 52 against reigning champion Essex.
Vihari revealed to ESPNCricinfo that it is easier to bat on sunny days. In overcast conditions, however, the Dukes ball moves around the whole day, making it difficult for the batters: ‘Definitely that’s the challenge here. The overhead conditions play a part as well because when it is sunny, it gets a bit easier to bat, but when it is overcast, the ball moves all day.’
