WTC Final: Jamieson five-for keeps New Zealand ahead of India
Kyle Jamieson returned 5-31 to bowl India out for 217 from their overnight 146/3 on Day 3 of the WTC final at the Rose Bowl, Southampton. He took the wickets of Rohit Sharma (34), Virat Kohli (44) and Rishabh Pant (4), and dismissed Ishant Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah in successive balls. Ajinkya Rahane top-scored with 49 before falling to Neil Wagner’s short-ball trap.
Devon Conway (54) and Tom Latham (30) then put on a 70-run opening stand before the latter hit R Ashwin straight to Kohli at short extra cover. Ishant Sharma removed Conway just before the bad light stopped play. The umpires called off the day’s play two balls later.
Kane Williamson (12*) is still in the middle alongside Ross Taylor. They closed on 111/2, trailing by 116 in the first innings.
Pakistan Women to play three ODIs and five T20Is against West Indies
Pakistan Women will travel West Indies for two limited-overs series later this month. They will play three T20Is and five ODIs, starting 30 June at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. They will depart for Antigua from Lahore in two days.
The PCB will announce the squad by 21 June. Having travelled to South Africa and Zimbabwe recently, this will be Pakistan Women’s third international tour in the last four months.
Bristol Test ‘great advert’ for Test cricket: Heather Knight
Heather Knight hailed the Test match between India and England as a ‘brilliant advertisement’ for Test cricket. She also opined she would welcome five-day Test matches for women.
India were made to follow on in Bristol after they were bowled for 231 in England’s 396/9 reply. They were struggling at 199/7 with a lead of just 34. Sneh Rana (80*) then held the fort alongside Shikha Pandey and Taniya Bhatia, to take India to safety. They finished at 344/8.
‘It’s been a great advert and shows that Women’s Test cricket has a place in the game,’ Knight added.
BCCI to donate INR 10 crores to Tokyo Olympics athletes
The BCCI pledged to donate INR 10 crores for the training and preparations of India’s Tokyo Olympic-bound athletes.
Speaking to PTI, a senior BCCI official confirmed, ‘BCCI will be helping out the Olympic contingent. An amount of Rs 10 crore has been sanctioned by the Apex Council.’
The Tokyo Olympics will get underway on 23 July.
