No change in follow-on rule in WTC final: ICC
The ICC has clarified that there will be no change in the follow-on rule if play is washed out on Day 1 of the World Test Championship (WTC) final between India and New Zealand.
The clarification was necessary after a reserve day was added to the final: ‘The first-innings lead of at least 200 runs will only change to 150 runs if no play takes place on the first and second scheduled days of the match. Normally this will occur if only the first day's play is lost, but with the provision of a reserve day, it remains a 5-day match even if the first day is lost.’
The top-two Test ranked side will be playing for the WTC title at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton from 18 June.
Rashid chooses PSL over County cricket
Rashid Khan has said that he has put his county contract with Sussex on hold to participate in the remainder of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), starting from 9 June in Abu Dhabi. He has also praised Sussex for letting him play for the Lahore Qalandars.
‘I must appreciate Sussex for their help and understanding as I had to decide between missing five games with the county or playing a whole tournament like PSL which seemed like a better option, especially as the fans wanted me to play in the PSL,’ Cricket Pakistan quoted Rashid as saying.
DPL: BCB investigating bio-bubble breach involving Shakib-led side
The BCB has begun investigating a potential bio-secure bubble breach during a practice session of the ongoing Dhaka Premier League (DPL). An unknown outsider reportedly entered the premises on 4 June during Mohammedan Sporting Club’s training session, when their captain Shakib Al Hasan was batting at the indoor facilities of the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.
‘We are disappointed to note this incident,’ said Kazi Inam Ahmed, the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) chairman in a media release. ‘Both the CCDM and the BCB have taken this very seriously. This incident is being looked into and necessary actions and further precautionary measures will be taken.’
The tournament started on 31 May, with four team hotels coming under the board's biosecure bubble.
England vs New Zealand, 1st Test: Sibley hits fifty as hosts settle for a draw
Joe Root and Kane Williamson agreed to shake hands after England resisted the temptation to chase 273 in 75 overs against New Zealand on the final day of the first Test match, at Lord’s.
Resuming at 62/2, New Zealand declared on 169/6 at lunch. In reply, England closed on 170/3 in 70 overs. Dom Sibley’s unbeaten 60 from 207 balls led England’s safety-first approach.
Debutant Devon Conway was adjudged Player of the Match for his 200 in the first innings. Ollie Robinson also had a remarkable debut, returning match figures of 7-101. The two sides will once again lock horns in the second and final Test of the series from 10 June at Edgbaston.
Robinson suspended from all international cricket
The ECB has suspended Ollie Robinson from all international cricket. The decision came after Robinson’s pending investigation into the racist and sexist tweets he posted in 2012 and 2013.
Robinson has left the England camp immediately on 6 June and has returned to his county club, Sussex. On international debut, he returned match figures of 7-101 and amassed 42 runs in the first Test at Lord's.
Tom Harrison, ECB's chief executive confirmed there will be a disciplinary process followed by a full investigation regarding Robinson’s remarks.
