First Test: New Zealand close Day 1 on 258/5 against Bangladesh
At stumps on Day 1 of the first Test match against Bangladesh, New Zealand reached 258/5 at the Bay Oval, with Henry Nicholls unbeaten on 32. Devon Conway and Will Young starred with bat, scoring 122 and 52 respectively to take New Zealand to a decent total.
With 2-52, Shoriful Islam was the pick of the Bangladesh bowler. Ebadot Hossain and Mominul Haque took a wicket apiece, while Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz remained wicketless.
Auckland beat Wellington by six wickets
Centuries from George Worker (132) and Mark Chapman (105) helped Auckland chase 308 against Wellington with six wickets and two balls to balls to spare in Match 7 of the Ford Trophy. Glenn Phillips made a 21-ball 30 to see off the target in the final over. Ollie Newton, Michael Bracewell and Peter Younghusband claimed a wicket each.
Earlier, Finn Allen’s 55-ball 86 and Troy Johnson’s 84 led Wellington to 307/9 after they opted to bat. Danru Ferns returned 3-68 and Louis Delport 2-43.
Brisbane defend 151 against Hobart
Xavier Bartlett’s career-best 4-30 and Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s 3-20 helped Brisbane Heat defend 151 against Hobart Hurricanes in Match 29 of the BBL 2021/22. Tom Rogers scored an unbeaten 20-ball 33, but could not find enough support. James Bazley top-scored with an unbeaten 27-ball 44 in the Heat’s 150/8.
Rain ruins Sixers versus Renegades
Relentless rain did not allow a single ball in Match 30 of BBL 2021/22, between Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Renegades. The Sixers won the toss and opted to field before the rain arrived and forced them to share points.
The Renegades remained at the bottom of the points table, with seven points from as many matches. The Sixers, on the other hand, are at the top, with 23 points from eight matches.
