Clare Connor becomes MCC's first female President
Clare Connor, England Women's Ashes-winning captain and the Director of Women's Cricket at the ECB, has taken charge as the first female President of MCC in their 234-year history. Her term was delayed by a year due to Covid-19, with her forerunner Kumar Sangakkara staying on for a second term.
‘I will try to bring my range of experiences from the dressing room and the boardroom to support, influence and work alongside the club's leadership and committees over the next 12 months,’ said Connor.
Connor made her international debut in 1995 at 19, and took over the captaincy five years later.
T20 World Cup: Sri Lanka add five players to their preliminary squad
Sri Lanka added five more players to their preliminary squad for the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup, to be held in Oman and the UAE. They are Pathum Nissanka, Minod Bhanuka, Ashen Bandara, Lakshan Sandakan, and Ramesh Mendis.
Lahiru Madushanka, who was initially picked in the T20 World Cup squad, will not travel due to an injury, the Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed in a release.
Pink-ball Test: Mandhana hits hundred on Day 2
Smriti Mandhana notched up her first Test century to take India to a decent first-innings total against Australia on a rain-interrupted Day 2 of the Day-Night Women’s Test match in Carrara. Mandhana was dismissed for 127 as India closed the day on 276/5.
After rain heavily affected Day 1, only 57.4 overs were possible on Day 2. There is no reserve day scheduled for the contest either, although better weather is expected for the next two days.
Punjab beat Kolkata, moves to fifth
Punjab Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by five wickets in Match 45 of the IPL 2021 in Dubai. With the win, they have now moved up to fifth place in the points table, ahead of Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals.
Riding on Venkatesh Iyer's 49-ball 67, Kolkata posted 165/7 after they were asked to bat. Nitish Rana got 31 in 18 balls. Arshdeep Singh and Ravi Bishnoi were picks of the Punjab bowlers, returning 3-32 and 2-22 respectively.
K.L. Rahul and Mayank Agarwal then added 70 in 54 balls to keep the chase under Punjab's control. They stumbled a bit after Mayank's departure, but Shahrukh Khan's 9-ball 22 not out took them home with three balls to spare.
