Tim Southee wins Sir Richard Hadlee medal
Tim Southee was honoured with Sir Richard Hadlee Medal for winning the Player of the Year for 2022. In 2021, Southee claimed 38 wickets at an average of just over 23, and his five-wicket haul in the final helped New Zealand win the World Test Championship.
'Like most cricketers growing up I knew all about the exploits of Sir Richard and it's certainly pretty humbling to win his award this year,' said Southee. 'While the accolades are nice, I think it really just reflects the way we have worked together as a group and played our cricket for a long period of time.'
Jeff Vaughan steps down as Australia men's assistant coach
Jeff Vaughan has resigned as Australia men's assistant coach with immediate effect. He will join Tasmania as head coach. Vaughan joined Australia's coaching set-up last year, along with Michael Di Venuto.
'I'm incredibly grateful to Cricket Australia for the opportunity, and to Cricket Tasmania for being so open-minded about my return, so I really can't wait to just get stuck in and am looking forward to maintaining the direction of the program for an extended period of time,' said Vaughan.
Anya Shrubsole retires from international cricket
Anya Shrubsole, the first England bowler to take 100 T20I wickets and Player of the Match in the 2017 World Cup final, has retired from the international cricket. However, she will continue to play domestic leagues and The Hundred, in which she is the captain of Southern Braves.
'I feel immensely privileged to have been able to represent my country for the past 14 years,' Shrubsole said. 'To have been involved in women's cricket at a time of such growth has been an honour but it has become clear to me that it is moving forward faster than I can keep up with, so it is time for me to step away.'
