Australia win maiden Men's T20 World Cup
Australia beat New Zealand by eight wickets to win the Men's T20 World Cup in Dubai for the first time. Mitchell Marsh (77* in 50 balls) and David Warner (53) starred with bat to see off the target of 173 with seven balls to spare. Trent Boult returned 2-18, but the rest of his teammates were expensive.
Earlier, Kane Williamson smashed a 48-ball 85 to take New Zealand to 172/4 after they were asked to bat. Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the Australian bowler, with 3-16.
Stafanie Taylor becomes third woman to score 5,000 ODI runs
Stafanie Taylor became the third woman to score 5,000 ODI runs, after Charlotte Edwards and Mithali Raj, during West Indies' third ODI against Pakistan, on 14 November. She also became the fastest woman to the milestone, taking 129 innings – Raj and Edwards took 144 and 156 respectively – and the first woman to the 5,000 run-100 wicket double.
Having won the opening two matches, West Indies were chasing 226 to complete the clean sweep. From No. 4, Taylor struck 12 fours in her unbeaten 117-ball 102 to get the job done with six overs to spare.
Tamim to miss Pakistan series
Tamim Iqbal has been ruled out from Bangladesh’s upcoming home series against Pakistan, starting 19 November in Mirpur, due to a thumb injury. He began the net session last week to prepare for the two-match Test series, but went for an x-ray after feeling uncomfortable while batting against fast bowlers. The result revealed a new fracture in his broken thumb.
Bangladesh will also be without Mohammad Saifuddin for both T20Is and Tests, while Shakib al Hasan will not feature in the T20Is because of the hamstring injury he picked up during the T20 World Cup.
The three T20Is will be played on 19, 20 and 22 November at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. After that, the two-Test series will begin, from 26 November.
Mitchell replaces Conway for India Tests
New Zealand have brought in Daryl Mitchell for injured Devon Conway in their Test squad for their upcoming series against India. Conway broke his hand when he thumped his bat after being dismissed in the Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 semi-final against England.
Since his debut in 2019, Mitchell has played five Tests for New Zealand. His maiden century came against Pakistan, in Christchurch in January.
