Andrew Symonds dies in car crash
Former Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds died in a car crash just outside of Townsville in his home state of Queensland. He was 46. Symonds averaged 40.61 with the bat from 26 Test matches for Australia, scored six centuries and 30 fifties and picked up 133 wickets in 198 ODIs.
'Early information indicates, shortly after 11 p.m. (Australian time) the car was being driven on Hervey Range Road, near Alice River Bridge when it left the roadway and rolled,' the police statement said. 'Emergency services attempted to revive the 46-year-old driver and sole occupant. However, he died of his injuries. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.'
Prithvi Shaw discharged from the hospital
India and Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw has been discharged from hospital and has returned to the team hotel following a bout of typhoid, the franchise said on Sunday. However, Delhi did not elaborate whether Shaw, who forged several fruitful partnerships at the top with David Warner in IPL 2022, will play the remaining two league matches for the franchise or not as he recovers from the illness.
Delhi Capitals will play Punjab Kings on Monday, followed by the last IPL 2022 league game against Mumbai Indians, at the Wankhede Stadium on 21 May. They are currently fifth on the IPL points table with 12 points and is in contention for a Playoffs berth.
Collingwood front-runner for England's white-ball coaching job
Days after Brendon McCullum was appointed head coach of the England Test side, Paul Collingwood is likely to beat off competition from former Australian cricketer Simon Katich and coach of the Women's World Cup champion Australian side, Matthew Mott, to become their coach in the limited-overs formats.
Collingwood acted as the interim coach of the England side when they toured the West Indies for the T20I and Test tours earlier this year.
My11Circle gets title sponsorship rights of Women's T20 Challenge 2022
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday awarded the title sponsorship rights for the Women's T20 Challenge 2022 to Indian fantasy sports platform My11Circle after a bidding process. This year's WT20C will comprise four games between 23 and 28 May at the MCA Stadium, Gahunje, Pune.
'It is our mission to promote and nurture the sport we love across all formats and the Women's T20 Challenge has always been key to that endeavour. The continued success of the tournament both on and off the field is encouraging and gives us immense confidence that we are heading in the right direction,' said BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.
